MediaLab Chrzelice – Culture Camp 2.0 is organized as a part of the Culture 2.0 project, which since 2006, examines and describes the cultural changes associated with technology and digital media. The organizer of the camp, which takes place on 12-16 August 2010 in a village near Opole Chrzelice is Ortus Foundation. The camp is part of the activities carried out by the Foundation, associated with nascent Centre for Dialogue of Cultures – Chrzelice Castle. For the programme of this project responsible are Mirek Filiciak (SWPS) and Alek Tarkowski (Creative Commons Poland / ICM UW).
Camp formula refers to the idea of a medialab: an institution which allows joining learning and work of people with various skills (computer scientists, designers, artists, users), on projects using new media and technologies.
What will happen in Chrzelice?
The core of the weekend meeting will be a series of workshops presenting the creative possibilities in using new digital technologies:
- The creation of music using an interactive installation program PureData (with Paweł Janicki, artist and computer scientist from the Wro Center, Wrocław). Knowledge of programming is not a requirement for participation;
- Design of electronic gadgets with the use of an open electronic platform – Arduino (with Daniel Soltis from tinker.it, in English). Knowledge of electronics is not required to participate in the workshop – but it may be helpful to know the foundations of programming;
- Digitization of the local heritage – oral histories, photographs and graphics (with Marcin Wilkowski from the Karta Centre and Alek Tarkowski). During the workshop they will talk about the concept of bottom-up digitizing, commonly used to backup local heritage resources and develop ways of presenting them on the internet;
- Audiovisual workshop with Melinda Sipos and Gábor Papp from the Kitchen Budapest medialab (in English). The workshop will focus on the use of Fluxus software to create animations and visual forms.
The workshops will be complemented by a series of presentations on culture 2.0, the medialab idea, and a series of evening cultural events. In addition, during that same time period the annual Chrzelice Days take place.
We are accepting applications from foreigners interested in our camp. Since we currently do not have an English language questionnaire, please write us a short mail stating your interest to oboz.kultury20@gmail.com and we will contact you.
